For our first wedding anniversary, we wanted to go away to celebrate. While our original plans of going on a California road trip were no longer feasible, we decided we wanted to explore our own backyard here in BC.
We had been to Tofino once before, but for my best friend’s wedding. We decided we wanted to go back and see what else Tofino had to offer.
Where We Stayed
We splurged a bit in celebration of our anniversary and booked the Cox Bay Suite at Pacific Sands Resort. We were so happy we did. I’ve always heard great things about Pacific Sands, but actually being there is a different story.
The suite was incredible – we had a hot tub on our balcony that overlooked the beach. Our suite was beachfront, so once we were down on the main floor, it was a two-second walk until you hit the sand.
Not only was the suite amazing, but all that the resort had to offer. You really don’t need to leave. You can rent bikes, surfboards, get small groceries, eat at the restaurant, make your complimentary smores at one of the many fire pits, read or relax on one of the hammocks, BBQ, the list goes on.
If you’re planning on visiting Tofino for a relaxing trip, I highly recommend Pacific Sands.
Where We Ate
On our first night, we really wanted to enjoy our resort so we had dinner at the Surfside Grill. We both ordered the fish and chips to go and took our food to our room to eat overlooking the beach.
Wolf in the Fog is a cute restaurant in the heart of Tofino. We had never been before but had heard great things. We both ordered the Big Bad Wolf breakfast which tasted so fresh and so good.
The Shed offers eat-in and delivery. After a day at the beach, we didn’t feel like going out so we ordered in 2 pizzas. They tasted like they were baked in a proper woodfire oven. All the different flavors worked so well.
Rhino Coffee House is always a stop when we go to Tofino. They have the best Maple Bacon Donuts. You can also get a breakfast sandwich with your choice of ham, sausage or bacon on a donut. Chris went out one morning and brought back breakfast so we could have breakfast in bed.
On the Rocks Bar is an extension of The Pointe Restaurant at the Wickaninnish Inn. The Pointe Restaurant is super fancy with a panoramic view of the ocean. It is a bit more pricey, which is why we opted for the bar. You can still enjoy the view with a bit more simplified, budget-friendly menu. We started with oysters and then I ordered the burger, which was the best burger I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this spot.
What We Did
Tofino Brewing Co is such a fun place to stop at in Tofino. I don’t drink beer, but Chris ordered a flight to try their different beers. It was a super hot day, so we chose to sit inside, but there is so much outdoor seating to enjoy Tofino a bit more.
Tofino Distillery is right behind Tofino Brewing Co and was our next logical stop after the brewery. It’s a smaller space but there’s indoor and outdoor seating for you to try the spirits or order some small cocktails. There is a limit of 3 cocktails per person, so we each tried 2 different drinks. We couldn’t leave without taking some craft gin home either!
There are so many cute boutiques along the main stretch in Tofino. It’s fun to go down the street jumping in and out of the shops looking at all the unique art, the craftsmanship of items and find things you wouldn’t normally find at home.
No trip to Tofino is complete without a beach day. Whether you are going surfing, going for walks or a bike ride along the beach or just spending the day enjoying the sunshine.
We are already talking about going back to Tofino because we loved it so much. It’s such a great place to relax and unwind and disconnect.
