Ice cream is definitely my weakness when it comes to dessert. Actually, nearly anything sweet is. I caught up with my good friend Jessica over sushi at MoMos in Gastown before deciding we didn’t want our catch up to end. We walked further into Gastown to go to Soft Peaks Ice Cream, somewhere we both hadn’t tried before.
Soft Peaks uses local ingredients to top their perfectly churned soft serve ice cream. While there is a lot of choices for ice cream toppings, there are only three choices for ice cream. You can choose from vanilla, dark chocolate, or a mixture of the both.
Jessica and I both chose the twist of flavours, however, our toppings were different. She went for honeycomb, and I went for the Rocky Mountain which consisted of syrup of my choice, chocolate, and coconut topping.
Neither of us opted for a cone, so they came in cups. The ice creams were tasty, but they definitely weren’t the best ice creams we have ever had. I don’t know if it was the lack of ice cream flavours, or the hype that was built up over trying a new place, but we were a little disappointed.
I think, if I were to go back again, I would enjoy it a little bit more. I really loved that everything was local. Now I know what the options are, I know what to expect.
