We arrived in Montreal at 7 am after taking a red-eye from Vancouver, having had about three hours sleep since the night before. We quickly hopped on the bus from the airport and made our way to the hotel to drop off our bags so we could explore.
When we got to the hotel, Chris suggested we should change because I’d want to take lots of pictures. We changed and then Chris suggested, since it was a beautiful day, we make our way to the top of Mount Royal. He’d been talking about the view point for at least a week; it was a little strange for him to suggest we do specific things on our vacation, as he usually just goes with the flow.
We wandered towards the park, walking along a slightly inclined pathway that leads to several sets of steps, which took as to the top. Again, I found it strange that Chris would want to do that as we are not active people.
Once we made the hike to the top, the view was incredible. You could see the entire city of Montreal. After taking many pictures, Chris wanted to walk through the park to see what we could find.
We went all the way along the pathway, finding an electric cross, before coming back to the viewpoint. Chris suggested we sit and take it all in for a while before seeing the rest of the city. I could sense he was a bit nervous, but I couldn’t quite work out why.
After quite a bit, while talking about the view he tells me that as beautiful as it is, it’s not the reason why he brought me up there.
My heart started racing as he got on one knee, tears in his eyes and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes! It was all a blur from there.
No one knew what was going on, so we called our family and friends to share the good news.
Looking back, all of his subtle hints like making sure I looked cute, making sure I got my nails done, I really should have figured it out. Montreal will forever hold a special place in my heart.
