Carlsbad, California

Groupon is great. You can get vacations, spa days, clothes – nearly anything that you want. Shelby had been talking about going paddle boarding because she loved it so much last time. We checked Groupon and lo and behold, there was one for paddle boarding at the Carlsbad Lagoon.

Paddle boarding is a growing trend both at home in Vancouver, as well in California. I had never been, but always wanted to go. Since this trip was turning out to be a time to try new things, we bought the Groupon and decided to go paddle boarding.

Shelby, Melissa and I started off the day by stopping at Target and buying snacks and margaritas for the beach afterwards. After we paid for everything we arrived to the Carlsbad Lagoon. We grabbed the boards and headed out.

It was so much fun! We went from one side of the lagoon to the other. While we were paddling, you could see the fish jumping out of the water. They were huge and fearless. One jumped onto Melissa’s paddle board. Getting to the opposite side was a lot easier than coming back. When we decided it was time to go back, the wind was blowing full force against us. At one point, Shelby and I weren’t moving, no matter how hard we paddled.

We eventually made it back and decided it was time for the beach. It was so hot out. Laying in the sun was so relaxing after working our muscles earlier. We snacked while we tanned and chilled out. We went in the water to cool down. Melissa and Shelby went straight in and played in the waves, but I stayed on the sand keeping my feet wet.

The sun drained all of our energy and we went back to Shelby’s. We decided to have a low key night, so she made us dinner. She made homemade fettuccine alfredo and caesar salad with garlic bread on the side. It was incredible! She can cook for me whenever she likes!
